The Old Folks Home

Finally got the nest box attached to the coop, and the pop door put on! I have to install flooring and perches. Then feeder and waterers. And put wire and a door on the run. Maybe some day I can use this coop!

You can just see the pop door. I need to paint the bare plywood around it.

And the nest box is mounted.

Part of my roof shed its snow. I had to shovel it off the walk and it was heavy! Heavy enough that a lot of spots I had to take off in two or three layers. The best shovel I have to do it is a flat bottomed one that I use in the garden. Now if it had a longer handle, my back wouldn't ache so much!

I'm thinking when the neighbor boys get older, I'll have some helpers I can hire.

I NEVER understand the houses in snow country that are designed so the snow from the roof dumps on the front door.

And there are lots.

The neighbor's roof dumps onto their deck... and usually dumps with such depth that an ice strip forms under the weight of the snow. And they are really good at shoveling it as soon as it falls.

I am blessed to be in a house where the berms from the roof get to sit there until spring. Which is nice... since those berms are now over 8 feet tall.

New shoulders would help here.
I remember years back when the kids were still short boys... and I was plowing, and I drove by the boys shoveling the church path... but the path edges were so crazy tall... so I would see the shovels go up... half of the shovel load go onto the berm on the side of the path... and the other half of the shovel load slide off down their shovels, their backs and back onto the path.
