The Old Folks Home

Hi guys, sorry for the absence. We had a stressful weekend dealing with our 21 year old cat who decided to have a diabetes crisis and bottom out. Long story short, he wound up getting caught in a railing and we had to rescue him then baby him for two days. He's doing better but at 21, anything is a potential crisis. Especially when you are dealing with diabetes.

Nothing new to report here. I sure hope all you guys getting the vaccine have smooth sailing. I got to talk to our neighbor on Saturday while she was walking on the road with her dog. They went through both shots with no side effects.

I wish I knew we could be that lucky but somehow I doubt we would be given past history with vaccines.

Due for some stormy weather starting tonight and tomorrow. I rescheduled my rheumy appointment not anxious to tackle our mucky road just to drive 20 miles then drive back again and tackle the same mucky road.

I just wish it would dry out and stay dried out so I could get my coops cleaned and the roosters moved around. Y'all talking about chicks and lock downs and more chicks is making me jealous!

That is a very old cat!

There are a lot of egg being cradled on the Easter Hatch a long!

That he is Ron. We figure between getting chewed on by the dogs and his diabetic health crisis he's used up about 15 of his 9 lives in his 21 years.

I need to get the bachelors moved into the summer coop so I can pen Tut and the four Fayoumi hens in the bachelor coop for a few weeks so I can make sure they are laying only pure Fayoumi eggs for me to incubate. I'm wanting to add Fayoumis to my flock this year.

Seems he doesn't like the light colored hens, but prefers the dark ones.. I wonder if they actually care about color.
Ahh I don't think they don't like a color but they often prefer a hen and she consistently gets a double dose of breeding. Often a (my current problem) problem with multiple roosters as well, even if you have more than 5 hens.
They may really like/lust a different hen or color. Some people ohhhh chikens are that way.

I have one little hen who seems to be the 'favorite' of every rooster this spring. Poor little thing is starting to look a bit frayed around the feathers. I almost stroked out the day I saw my big clumsy Fayoumi rooster mount her. Then I saw her spread her wings out, flatten herself into a puddle under him, jump up once he finished, shake herself off and go back to scratching in the dirt.

Sometimes they amaze me.

I have one larger rooster in the coop who has taken to squiring around one of the bantam hens. It's so darned cute to see this big guy making sure no other rooster gets close to her. Meanwhile she is so small she can walk between his legs.

@penny1960 sorry to hear about you losing a hen. I hate it when they do that without warning. I know they don't have a choice in the matter, but it's still painful.

I had two of my young cockerels from last summer chasing one another around the coop tonight. Don't know what their major malfunction was but they were not happy with one another. Finally, when one pursuer galloped past me, I reached down and pulled on his tail feathers. He would yelp, go back to the pursuit, pull the hackle feathers on his brother, gallop after him, I'd pull his tail. Took three times doing that before he figured out what was going on and stopped chasing his brother.

What can I say, I amuse easily.
