We had a place back in IL that made the most delicious steaks you've ever stabbed with a fork. Don't know how they did it but usually we went there with friends after New Years for dinner.

Unfortunately it burned down which seems to be the fate of most GOOD restaurants, I've decided.

I use the Grill Mate's marinade for steak and shish kabobs. Either the Montreal Steak or the Bourbon and Brown Sugar. We like them both. I grow summer squash just so I have them on hand for summer kabobs. Makes my mouth water just thinking about them!

Something always seems to happen to the good ones. About 25 years ago, there was a little mom and pop restaurant in Saint Johns, Arizona (a tiny town) run by a retiree age husband and wife. When you ordered, they literally would go out and pick the veggies out of their garden. It would take a while to get the food, but it was so good. Unfortunately, the place did not last very long. Best restaurant food I've ever had.

There was a restaurant in western IL where we used to live that would do that. The owner had a little garden behind the restaurant where they grew fresh tomatoes and veggies that they used for menu and buffet items. The place didn't look like much inside or out but they had a meeting area with a stage and such. Unfortunately they always had a leak or two in the roof and buckets strategically set. It was kind of an ongoing joke.

The good thing was that everyone in town went there to eat and the place was always packed. Friday night was all you could eat seafood buffet night and you had to get there early to get the crab legs and craw dads!

They closed down about two years before we retired and we miss it to this day. It was one of those Cheers type of restaurant and bars where everyone knew you and you knew everyone. Those type of restaurants are hard to find today.

Still over 4 feet of snow here.... no bare ground in sight

Yikes! Makes it hard for Easter egg hunts, but at least any unfound eggs would keep until thaw...

Last night, my feet were hurting bad. I began looking, and sure enough, they were swollen. Not only my feet, but my ankles were swollen too. I don't know what happened, or why, but they were that way for several hours. The swelling has subsided now.

I was going to scrub the floors, but couldn't with my feet, and ankles the way they were. I'll do the floors tonight.

8 of 9 eggs for the Hatch-along are now chicks and there's one lone holdout egg with a pip. Gotta love those Easter chicks!

One thing I do miss that nobody does anymore is having picnics. That was fun. Sit in a pretty spot and eat, and you can social distance to your heart's content.

Gotta get busy. I've been digging a hole for the last two days so I can plant a peach tree today. It took a while because the ground is really rocky, and I'm not in my 20's any more. I want to plant it on Easter Day.

11 out of 12 now.. So relieved that both of Henrietta's eggs hatched as they are sibblings to Prince Charles and Charlotte. They look like BCM but are much larger and more solid looking.. Charlotte's eggs are nearly as dark as my BCMs are.

They are the only feed store in town now!

We have TSC a local co-op and Stewart Brothers here.. Plus Piggly Wiggly sells Nutrena feeds which is cheaper than TSC so gonna do them now. Stewart Vros stopped selling chicks when TSC started and I'm not sure if the Co-op ever did sell chicks. I'm certainly interested in getting a chicken swap going here in town.

That is what they wanted to be the only game in 60 miles here .. Another outfit started like 5 miles from them with more knowledgeable help. There was a Mom and Pop one midway that would not sell to them.. The best is the folks that they bought out owned the building so went back into business all the customers came back also
