The Old Folks Home

Hope everyone had a good Easter!

I've got to make a decision about my Ameraucana hen. I checked her last night and she has a classic case of abdominal ascites/water belly.

She laid a few eggs in January when the girls started laying again. Stopped when the weather turned bitter cold, started laying again and then stopped laying in less than a week after starting. Checked her last night and she is a balloon. Will probably have to put her down. Sad. She's a nice hen.
So sorry..... I can only imagine how hard it is to put one down. Haven't had to do that yet, thank heavens. My little day old peepsters are already digging in to the food.. They had all been in the water yesterday.. I don't/didn't show any of them where it was, or what it was. Amazingly my wrong end peeper was the first to hatch and he/she is just an amazing ball of fur. Glad I joined the Easter Hatch along.. and I have more eggs in the bator now. Phew, what to do with all these peeps?

Went out and checked my Ameraucana. Definitely has water belly but I did a digital and can't feel anything unusual in her. She has lost weight but is eating well and is alert. Her comb is a good color. She is just slowly dying from whatever it is that is causing the ascites. As long as she is eating and moving around I've decided to let her go until she doesn't. Life is short.

Momring, everyone! The peach tree got planted yesterday morning. It's only about 4 feet tall, so I guess I gotta wait for peaches.
I planted a Nectarine tree a couple of years ago. I hope I get some fruit this year!

Poor thing!

I'd do it but I'm too far away! Baking a cake to celebrate Mr B's 93rd birthday.. Just had a chit chat with him on the phone. He just had a shot in his back due to back pain.. he said "Hell of a birthday present", but I'm sure he's happy the back's not hurting for the moment. Got news that they tore my old house down after the last hurricane flooded it. I wonder why they never elevated it.. I had applied for FEMA funds and done all the legwork including paying $750 to an architect for the plans. Nope, tore it down, put in a pad for a RV... They don't even have a vehicle to pull it with, so the next flood that comes along it will flood too, I suppose.
Here's the old place I spent so much time and energy on after I bought it.

That's sad, @CSolis.

Last year I got on Google Earth and looked up the house that I basically grew up in. My parents and I lived there for almost 20 years.

The 8 acres set next to a cemetery. When they sold it, the Catholic Church bought the property to add the acreage to their cemetery, then they sold the acre that the house set on.

I was stunned when I brought up the address and the house was gone. The garage was gone. All the fruit trees were gone. It was if none of it ever existed. My parents built on to the house. I had an art studio there. It's where I had my horses. All just wiped from the face of the earth. Only just memories and photos left. So I know how you feel. :hugs
