Clearly warming up,because there are a few ice patches now.

I got new boots this winter, fit better, feel better, in general great... except they are horrid on ice.

Thinking I need to buy another set of new boots...

Bought a pair two years ago look like they belong there. Wore them 2 days last year. 1 time this year.

Al, I couldn't take a winter any longer than ours is! Just now tiny green shoots of daffodils are appearing, grass starting to green up

Morning everyone. Alaska is gorgeous. God was in a good mood the day he created it. But there is that crazy winter thing going on there.

Years ago, DH was approached by a colleague with an offer for us to move up to Alaska. We were seriously considering it until we started to watch some of those tv shows like 'Life Below Zero', At one point we looked at one another and said...'do you realize how cold it gets up there?' 'Do you realize how long winter is up there?' 'Would we be able to acclimate to little or no sun for months on end?'

Then we were honest with ourselves, sighed and admitted it would be hard for us as old as we were at the time.

Alaska is amazing, but I think it's better tolerated by those who are either born there or immigrate there while they are young. We are too tied into the 2 seasons thing here, Hot followed by Cold!

It's raining here today. We needed it to work the fertilizer into the soil. Plus to my husband's amazement, I ran out into the road yesterday in front of our house with a bucket and shovel and scraped up road apples that one of the Amish horses left for me on the way by.

Free Fertilizer! You can't beat that.

I wish I had my phone with me this morning... I'll have to let KE and Sara out more often. She's great, minds her own business, picks at grass. etc. Little KE the bantam goes to every single pen and tries to prove how 'big' he is. It's so hilarious watching him with roosters 3x his size. Butt I got their pen cleaned out and revamped with fresh clipping, plus the turn out pen I'm going to use for the soon to be 5 week olds next week. Temps are now in the 80's with a low of 60 at night. I've put the old dog crate back together, and will go rake up some of that 'mulch' ya'll love so much and line the crate with a bunch of that.. They can huddle together at night to keep warm.

Cap said what I was going to post. I don't think any boots are good on ice without them. And they are much cheaper and easier to find than a pair of warm and comfortable boots.

@CSolis, bantams are big roosters in small packages. All of my SDW boys are like that. If I catch one of them challenging Trubel who is at least 3 times their size, I'll scoop them up and transfer them far enough away in the coop/run that they lose interest in challenging him and start chasing a hen around.

They aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree but you can't fault them their bravado.

Cheaper yet than crampons, a box of quarter inch hex head metal screws strategically screwed into the tread of a pair of comfortable old boots! That is what DH did for us. No falls on ice in two or three years now!
