Varmints...
Our neighborhood is beset with pack rats. Horrid things. The guy across the street calls them "mountain rats" because they're so burly. He has caught 17, I've caught about a dozen. We discourage poisons because of all the raptors and owls we have. Really destructive critters... The local car shops getting lots of chewed wiring problems coming in. Lots of construction happening nearby, so all sorts of things relocating. Wish more large snakes would visit.
I set the black plastic snap traps. Used to use the wooden ones, but the pack rats would cart them away. (Well, they *are* pack rats after all.) The Squirrelinator catches an occasional one, but I'd prefer to bait that for the squirrel family that's residing under my neighbor's porch.
The rabbit population has been abated by the Colorado Hemorrhagic Disease that spread southward to our state. I have maaaaybe 4 visible rabbits when in past years there have been 34. Saw a baby bunny yesterday, so they're doing what rabbits do best.
Managed to prevent the lumberjacking of tomato and pepper plants with hoop rows in the veggie compound. Not sure what will happen when the plants outgrow them, though.
