The Old Folks Home

Good morning.
Good Morning, OF. Up and at 'em. Got the two brooders cleaned already. House cleaning day since the PT wore me out yesterday. The little bantam babies are perching on the side of the tub already, and the baby Bielefelders a week older aren't. Funny how the littlest chicks do the funniest thing.

Morning everyone.

Yesterday was DH's birthday. We had a nice quiet day doing what he wanted to do including some star gazing. I bought him a 12 inch telescope for his birthday. The thing is a beast that I call his hot water heater because that it shat it looks like.

Lost my lone Ameraucana hen died yesterday. I knew she was terminal, possible cancer. She stopped laying in Feb and swelled up with water belly. Lost weight, the end. She was barely 3 years old. I just don't have good luck with these heavy bodied, high production hens. This one was given to me but I don't think I would buy any on my own.:(

Sorry you lost one. It has been a hard year.

Happy Birthday to DH!

I am sorry that the hen died.

We have a 7" that was given to us a few years ago. Have no idea how to use it so it has just sat in the spare room. Much too heavy to cart around.

Getting chicks on Saturday.
I called Meyer to see when mine are supposed to hatch and shop since my computer is still being repaired (now going into week 4). They should hatch Monday so I best get busy cleaning out the coop and setting up the MHP in the spare room.

Nuit is holding strong with her twice a day removal from her nest for food, water and personal hygiene. I can mess around under her at roost time so I'm hoping it will be easy to stuff the chicks under her.

You can’t turn your head for very long and that little one is into something. Needless to say I had to put them somewhere else.
I suggest kid jail;)

I have a ton of babies down here. Come take your pick! I was thinking this morning. Of all the chicks that hatched from my own flock I haven't had a single 'failure to thrive' baby. Unlike chicks I've bought from Hoovers. I'm blessed with an abundance now.

Thanks everyone

@CSolis, the last thing I need is more chickens, LOL, but thanks for the offer, I have three hens that want to go broody on me. One has been in broody jail three times now and heading for the 4th. If I let them have their way I'd be knee deep in chicks right now.

With everything that has been going on this spring I just decided that the last things I needed were chicks to take care of and or broody hens with chicks to wrangle. DH saw me with a wanna be broody under my arm and asked me if she was sick. I told him no, just broody and heading for broody jail. No desire to do the chick thing and I have ample chickens right now. Bless him, he just said, well maybe you will feel like it next year.

Probably, my DH knows me.
