You can make your own SCOBY from purchased tea. That's how I got mine going.

Yup, it's just finding purchased tea around here that isn't flavored. I hear you can buy scobys too. Taste of the tea was strange at first but I got used to it pretty fast.
Another thing I should get started on is sour dough starter, as I predict empty store shelves soon enough. Got plenty of cornbread mixes in the cupboard since my kids love that.
 
I'm gonna ask a dumb question now. After seeing so many silkies advertised on FB, or ISO ads looking for silkies, what in the world are they good for. Not big enough to eat yet they still do, eggs can't be big enough to make a sandwich unless you use several. Are they just pets?

Yard candy and broody mamas comes to mind.

From what I understand they are almost guaranteed broody.
