We've got three adult greyhounds. I swear, when they're awake it's like having a bunch of toddlers underfoot. Our newest one who was fresh off the track is still navigating everything and into everything. The middle one had surgery, so we're constantly monitoring her as she's a contortionist and able to out-maneuver the cone of shame to get at her stitch work. Our senior is perpetually our Gold Star dog and all she has to do to earn one is merely breathe as the other two are whirling dervishes when active. And they're adult dogs, and so having had a puppy of this breed -- who, if he had had velcro on his paws we'd be pulling him off the ceiling -- I cannot imagine wishing for that much activity. Maybe I'm just getting old(er)...
 
Every time I turn on the TV, the forecasters are amping up the weather forecast. We've got from 40% chance of precip to a 90% chance of a weather event and storm warnings through New Year's Day noon. DH & I have dinner reservations tomorrow night across the valley and are starting to wonder if we need to get a Plan B in place. Rain I can handle for driving. Snow and slush not so much.

And the Golden with Corgi length legs! Apparently the kitchen counters in the JUST installed new manufactured home are higher than the ones in the ancient trailer. Fiona can't snag stuff off them :) I gather she's not good at standing on her hind legs or nothing would be safe.

While they're young, you think, when will they ever slow down?!? Then when they get to be senior, you wish they had puppy energy again.

Our 4 cattle dogs seem to be stuck in their adolescent years at the moment. It took them a while to get over losing their sissy and work out their new pecking order but now that they have they have settled into this boundless energy phase punctuated with clinging 'we love you mommy and daddy' phase that I think only Cattle Dogs exhibit. They mature so slowly that they seem to pause before gaining more wisdom. Hard to believe they will be 3 in a few days and don't mature until they are 7 or 8.

Our two oldest are almost 9 and just wonderful companions. I told DH that we only had 5-6 more years before the cattle dogs started to settle down a bit and that we had to plan to out live them. He asked me how long that would be? 80? I just chuckled and told him they could live to be in their high teens. We know somebody with a 20 year old ACD. So maybe 85. I swear I heard him whimper.

FINALLY! Winter! They are saying 3-8 inches of snow by Sat. night with 35mph winds along with a winter storm watch.
