The Old Folks Home

In 2011(?), we had a snow-mageddon. Our road was drifted shut, about 3' deep in some places. If anyone back here had needed emergency help, the county would have to have accompanied them to plow out the road.

Those events are few and far between, fortunately. The rest of the time, we are glad to be way off the beaten path.

Living in the country with dogs it's kinda like that. Sitting on the sofa with a dog on either side of us. Sniff the air-grimace-check the bottom of your shoes. Nope. Sniff the air again. Trace it to the nearest dog. Look at them and there is green gunk hanging on the side of their necks that they have found and rolled it. SHOWER TIME!

Their whole attitude is but Mommmmmmmm we worked hard to build up that degree of stink.

@Sally PB it's different here. Last year we were snowed in for two months. Road tender never did show up to plow until the temp got above freezing and the snow turned to ice. Then they came and scrapped off a layer or two. Mostly it's every man for himself.

Back in IL we had a retired neighbor farmer who would show up with his tractor and plow and plow out everyone's drive way for them. Great guy. When we were moving we discovered that we couldn't get to our house from the west or south. DH called the neighbor and asked him if he could get us to the house. He said sure, told us to go to the east and his daughters house which was between our house and his, only across the road and drive across the front yard to the field, he'd meet us there with the tractor but not to try it by the road as it was drifted shut between her house and ours. Sure enough he did and plowed a trail for us across the field, across the road and into our driveway.

Country folks and farmers are some of the best people.

@bruceha2000. I would love me some lemon or lime in water. Can't. Chronic gastritis so I'm supposed to eat and drink low acidic. I am enjoying some ginger and lemon hot tea right now...only I'm telling myself it's artificial lemon and not reading the label!

I'm still waiting for 4 of the Christmas presents I ordered from Wal-Mart for the grands. When I ordered, it said they would be here by Christmas. The next day, I got an email saying they wouldn't arrive in time. More recently, a couple of them were further delayed. They're coming in on various dates between now, and Jan. 6. Talk about the 12 days of Christmas, or maybe the 6 days of New Year.

I have to mention something. This year I decided that instead of spending so much on toys for the grands (they get so many), I opted to include spending the money on more practical gifts, made in America. I went to MyPillow.com, and got sheet sets, and pillows. To be clear, I learned long ago that few infomercial type products live up to their hype. I ordered pillows, and sheet sets. I was expecting them to be of average quality, nothing really special, but they were made in America, employing Americans, and this was better than spending all money at Wal-Mart, or on Amazon.

I have to admit, I have been totally impressed with the pillows, and sheet sets. The pillows exceed their hype, and totally live up to their advertising. They come compressed, and rolled up. Do the 15 mins. in the dryer, and give them a couple hours to fluff up. If you have considered getting one, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

We got both the Giza, and Flannel sheets. Again, the quality is fantastic, and you won't be disappointed.
