The Old Folks Home

You have plenty of wood. Make some blocks to attach to the pedals ;)

You could but you'd need a big battery. Electric resistance heat is high watt usage. You could get a BIG battery and an inverter and run the 120V bowl as it is sold. But you need 2 batteries so you can have one on the charger.
I guess that's why the creator put the chickens in a warm climate, then they never had ice but because humans domesticated then into a cold climate, well, now it's up to us to to see they don't have to drink ice!

I saw those earlier and they are fantastic. We have one of those little cup heaters around here somewhere unless it died and didn't inform me, LOL. I'm going to look and see if I can find it

Looking for a missing kitty tonight. Have no idea if she got out or if she is hiding somewhere. She is usually asleep most of the afternoon but tonight when I put their food bowls down, it dawned on me she wasn't underfoot pestering me for food and servant, I want it NOW! She was here for breakfast and then disappeared which is her habit.

So just in case she did get out we set the live trap under the porch where she has access (she's about 6 pounds and tiny) Told DH if she got out, she will want that food in that trap and if she didn't that means that something else happened to her and she found a corner to die in. She's only 12 though so while possible, not likely. Said we would know soon enough if we didn't catch her and noticed a smell that is out of the ordinary.
Uh oh... Are you sure there's no kittens somewhere?

Negatory to that also. She was spayed when her brother was neutered. Only thing is that she was so little the vet accidently left in a little tissue and she under goes false heats on occasion. She is older now and they are coming at wider spaced intervals. She is really funny when she goes through one, she vocalizes and errrr...humps one of our sofa pillows while she is vocalizing. She also gets really clingy affectionate.

Plus she is never outside and all the males are neutered.

The good news is, she's back. DH and I spent a sleepless night jumping up to check the live trap and checking outside every time the back motion detector light popped on-which we can see from our bedroom.

I think I got to sleep after 1 and was up at 3 then at 7 DH came in from searching the juniper bushes outside the house and checking the barn and when he came in, there she was sitting in the middle of the living room like 'whatcha lookin for daddy?' I jumped up and offered her breakfast which she gobbled down so all is back to normal.

All we can figure out is that last night we went to check our black diabetic kitty's blood sugar and instead of him being his amiable let's get this over with so I can eat self, he threw a hissy fit big time. He was screaming at the top of his lungs, Bit me, clawed DH all the while fighting us like Chuck Norris in a bad mood. Even the dogs retreated to their favorite 'if I lay real still they won't find me' spots because they thought that it was obvious that they were going to be next for whatever we were doing to that poor old cat. So we figured that she panicked, went into hiding and was so upset she wouldn't even come out for dinner.

Could she have gotten outside. Yeah I'm sure if they set their minds to it they could. We are in and out dozens of time a day and cats can be moving shadows when they want to be. The big question going through our minds is where was she hiding? Probably upstairs in the attic room where their litter boxes are along with dozens of storage totes. Kitty hiding places rich no matter how well we look.

But she is officially not lost anymore and as for DH and myself we aren't going to be real productive today. Y'all have a Great Sunday.

Wow he's lucky... Can't make a 'mistake of life' but still gets the good feel moments! 😻

The problem with battery run anything in a cold climate, is the cold kills the battery.
Yep, I think one would be swapping batteries frequently.

I have to admit, I've had two of the heated dog dishes and neither lasted longer than a season.
Curious. I'm only on my second. I think it is on winter # 3 now. The heated bucket came from the alpacas' prior owners 5.5 years ago along with the boys.
