Bruce, it's my understanding that fiber optic cables are a bit more delicate than regular wire cables. That's the only reason I did it myself.

Ah, I see. The cable guys here ran fiber optic cable (real thin!) through the crawl space to a little converter box on the wall, from there everything is the pre-existing Cat 6 other than the short piece of Cat from the converter to the modem.
