The Old Folks Home

Hubby helped me finish extending a stall all the way to the top so my young escape artist goat should not be able to escape. He also put up posts to wind fishing line around to keep the deer out. And ordered some flags so they don't try to jump in after my peas and beans.
That fishline really works! We used it around our orchard to keep the antlered forest rats from munching on our new trees. They only have to hit it once and get tangled and they cross the area off their buffet list.

Neighbor told us today that there is a coyote with a den on their property near our fence line. One of their sons saw it dive into a burrow this week. Had his rifle but couldn't get a shot off at it. Probably a female with pups.

Oh....goody was my response. I think our dogs are keeping it away from the respective houses.

I have not seen a coyote lately, but that doesn't mean that they're not out there.

I found the Tin Cat traps on HOMEDEPOT.COM for 9.99 and brought two of them. Free delivery and I get them the first of the week!

All of my bait holders were stripped again. I found 9 mice in one of the holders already trying to set up housekeeping. They had obviously been at the bait and were suffering.

I ended it.

Reading the reviews of the Tin Cats I was amazed as to how many people were actually saying that they REALLY took the mice a mile away from their property and released the mice so they had a 'clear conscious'
I stomped one to death this week and had no guilt! The mice terrorize my chickens. Sounds like a house full of roosters and upon investigation, the chickens are all huddled together while a mouse takes over the house. I have poor luck with bait and traps but the liquid works fabulous

Good morning.
Wow, I had great success getting rid of rats that way after they got wise to the traps.

I doubt they consider they either:
- Gave their problem to someone else
- Released the mice in an are unknown to them thus likely setting them up for death anyway?
Or set them up for a return. All animals have a strong homing instinct and there is the possibility that they might make it back 'home'.

My thoughts also, Bruce.

I eliminated a total of 13 mice from one coop today that were on their way out thanks to the Ramik. I did manage to find an access hole in the 'bantam' coop and plug it with hardware cloth so I actually had some bait left in that holder tonight.

Ramik has always been my go to. Just to shake things up I bought 8 pounds of 'One Bite' from Amazon that arrived today. In case they are building up resistance to Ramik.

I also bought two Tin Cat traps from Home Depot that should arrive the first of the week. Our neighbor was over today and I asked him if they were having problems with mice. They have cattle, 40 rabbits and chickens so I figured if anybody would be having problems besides me, they would and sure enough. He said mice hadn't been bad until recently so that made me feel some better.

Mice are the first food source for ticks and we all know what ticks can do when it comes to spreading disease. Plus rodents carry their own special witch's brew of bacteria. Nope, mice need to go not relocated.
one bite rat poison worked well here but is it not available for sale in California now. Amazon rejects my address
