The Old Folks Home

Congratulations on the sale, @pennyJo1960.

I don't want anything to suffer either. Hate it when I go after one with my 'varmint wacker' which is a two foot long 1X2 board or my hoe and it gets way wounded. Try my best for head blows.

Frankly I don't think poison is a particularly pleasant death but it is effective, especially when they carry part of it back to the nest and the nest is in hard to reach areas.

Thought about cutting holes in the walls and dumping bait down that way. DH was against that idea. He said with that old shed, the wall coverings are holding it together.

I'd hate for my chickens to find out that they are living in a building that is being held together with multiple layers of sheet metal.

Does that make me a slum lord?

I've gone through boxes of Farnam Ramik bait and they keep coming. Thinking of switching to a live trap like the Tin Cat model.
Wow, I had great success getting rid of rats that way after they got wise to the traps.

Reading the reviews of the Tin Cats I was amazed as to how many people were actually saying that they REALLY took the mice a mile away from their property and released the mice so they had a 'clear conscious' and didn't kill them.
I doubt they consider they either:
- Gave their problem to someone else
- Released the mice in an are unknown to them thus likely setting them up for death anyway?

Or spread disease and parasites

I found the Tin Cat traps on HOMEDEPOT.COM for 9.99 and brought two of them. Free delivery and I get them the first of the week!

All of my bait holders were stripped again. I found 9 mice in one of the holders already trying to set up housekeeping. They had obviously been at the bait and were suffering.

I ended it.

Considering the damage mice do, the diseases they carry, and how fast they reproduce (3 of the mice I dispatched today were adults, one a nursing female and the rest were juveniles) my conscious has no problem getting rid of them with whatever means available.

I'll just double down and collect more good Karma t
i can't believe people would relocate mice! Gross.
o balance things out a bit

My thoughts also, Bruce.

I eliminated a total of 13 mice from one coop today that were on their way out thanks to the Ramik. I did manage to find an access hole in the 'bantam' coop and plug it with hardware cloth so I actually had some bait left in that holder tonight.

Ramik has always been my go to. Just to shake things up I bought 8 pounds of 'One Bite' from Amazon that arrived today. In case they are building up resistance to Ramik.

I also bought two Tin Cat traps from Home Depot that should arrive the first of the week. Our neighbor was over today and I asked him if they were having problems with mice. They have cattle, 40 rabbits and chickens so I figured if anybody would be having problems besides me, they would and sure enough. He said mice hadn't been bad until recently so that made me feel some better.

Mice are the first food source for ticks and we all know what ticks can do when it comes to spreading disease. Plus rodents carry their own special witch's brew of bacteria. Nope, mice need to go not relocated.

Hubby helped me finish extending a stall all the way to the top so my young escape artist goat should not be able to escape. He also put up posts to wind fishing line around to keep the deer out. And ordered some flags so they don't try to jump in after my peas and beans.

Me neither. My jaw dropped when I read that. And more than one reviewer said that. I was like... :th

DH asked me what I was going to do with the ones I caught and I told him that I have no problem filling a bucket with water, dropping the trap in, coming back 5 minutes later and dumping the vermin in the pasture for the vultures to snack on.

If there is any question as to whether or not they have also been in the bait, I'll dig a hole and bury them.

I just shudder to think of how many have already died in the walls. Tomorrow I'm going to remove the winter covering from the windows so the air can circulate a bit better.
