The Old Folks Home

one bite rat poison worked well here but is it not available for sale in California now. Amazon rejects my address
Well that is sucky, Ron. Find something that works and they take it away from you.

The last two days have been hectic here. Sunshine, normal May temps and suddenly that spring to-do list is suddenly a reality.

I think I may have won this round of mouse wars. In four days I eliminated close to 50 mice including a very pregnant female. I think the One Bite did the trick. They were chewing through the Ramik like popcorn and they kept coming. I shudder to even try to imagine how many are dead in the walls.

But the past two days, there has been bait left in the bait holders. I have Tin Cats coming tomorrow or Tuesday and plenty of One Bite left so I am optimistic that maybe possibly, gosh I hope stay ahead of them now.

@CapricornFarm and @pennyJo1960 got two good pictures of Buck Creek from the bridge.

This is to the south. Doesn't look like much. An Amish farmer owns the pasture land at the creek and I think his horses drink from it so it's pretty well, blech.

This is the nice view to the north. It's still running a bit high and I couldn't get a good shot of the high banks on it that are further upstream but you can see the sand bars that are trying to pop into view. This is the stretch that I have permission to rock hound on. It's a lot nicer when the water clears up from the rains. You can see the bottom clearly.

The Spring Beauties are blooming...finally.

Along with the wild Phlox.

Pretty!

I managed to get two tomato plants planted in containers. Two more to go. Replacing dirt with rich black composted soil on the barn floor. My spinach, lettuce and edible pod sugar peas are up. I look at my two raised beds and instead of thinking, gee I need to plant more, I'm thinking, man I love my little garden this year!

Not having to worry and stress about how much pain I'm going to be causing myself by hoeing and weeding

My broody Screech has been a real trouper. She has 8 bantam and two regular eggs due to hatch the first of this week and the 6 Fayoumi chicks are four weeks old this week and starting to look like little miniature Fayoumis.

Hoping this will be the last of my hatching for this spring although I can't totally discount that I may hatch some more Bantams if I don't get a few pullets from this hatch.

I've been lucky with the Fayoumi chicks. Got a 3/3 split with them. Hopefully I'll do better with the bantams but I'm bracing myself. Those hens love to give me more little white headed SDW roosters.
