The Old Folks Home

Happy belated birthday @Grammy60. Old age isn't for the weak spirited, that is for certain. but it's a helluva lot better than the alternative.

I was talking to my husband the other day about some of the people that I took care of when I worked at the rehab and living center back in IL. Two I went to high school with. One died from ALS the other had a major stroke that left her pretty much a turnip. Had one that was 20 years my junior and had been born with CP among other problems. Had the mentality of a 6 month old....forever trapped in an normally aging body.

There for the grace of God.....I am so blessed to have made it through health scares to be the age I am and still be able to do most of what I want to do.

As for running down memory lane....ran into somebody I went to high school with when I was in my 50s. They recognized me immediately and said feature wise I hadn't changed much...I didn't know whether to be insulted or flattered, lol.

Going out to wet down the shade area for my birds. It's 95 here pushing to 100 they say and 101 tomorrow.

I think I'm looking forward to Fall..........

I'm doing well, I've become the caretaker now as Bob is having his turn with health issues 😞
Life happens. Sometimes in enexpected ways. I took care of my husband that had Alzheimers. Such a sad, mean, illness. They call it the long goodbye for a reason. You say goodbye to the person you knew and loved little by little, day by day..and for me it was only 31/2 years from diagnosis. I knew something was going on a good couple of years before, just took time to get him to the dr. A lot live longer after diagnosis. He was blessed to have gone sooner. . although I miss him terribly. I hope you're sweetheart gets well soon. Like you said, it's your turn. He took care of me for years while we tried to figure out my health issues. We took turns. That's what we do because we've been blessed to have a marriage that lasts until we're older. Keep us updated. 🙏

Lost both of my parents to dementia. I was their caregiver for close to 20 years.

I always tell people who say they are taking a turn at caregiving to remember to take care of the care giver.

DH and I take care of one another. That is what it is all about.:love

You must have endless patience. I knew after a year of living with Mom, i would be in a looney bin. I just couldn't do it.
