The Old Folks Home

Anybody done intermittent fasting? I already don't eat between 7 pm and 8 am, so extending it to 16 hours shouldn't be much of a stretch.
Hubs and I just started intermittent fasting about a month ago, for health reasons (mostly weight loss to help with blood pressure & lipid profiles). So far it's been easy and getting good results; we were already "coffee in the morning then get going on things" people, stopping for noonish "brunch" (usually leftovers). So now we skip that and have a light snack around 5-6pm. Dinner's always very late, 11pm or so (we're terrible nightowls, able to follow our inclination since we retired & don't have to be up & out early). We're on the South Beach Keto diet along with the fasting, and stubborn weight is FINALLY coming off. Metabolism definitely slowed down after age 60.

Definitely going off the diet for Thanksgiving, however, and for my 70th birthday celebration the following week!

I'm going to have to change my patterns more slowly. I normally eat breakfast as soon as it's light outside, then lunch at noon and dinner at 6. (Part of what I'm trying to work on is learning to eat when I'm actually hungry). I made myself wait for breakfast, then I wasn't hungry until after 2, and my last eating time is supposed to be 4 for the 8/16 schedule? Um...

Carbs are evil. They taste so good and in excess are just so bad for us.

The facility that I worked at back in IL had started taking bariatric patients who had to prove that they could drop weight/or lose X number of pounds before they qualified for bariatric surgery. One lady made a real impression on me. She was a lovely older lady, great sense of humor who weighed close to 600 pounds upon admission. I remember talking to her and how easily she made me laugh. Finally I asked her how had she let her weight get so out of control. She shrugged and said 'I just didn't stop eating'.

It's so easy to fall into bad eating habits and a real job to change those habits for the better.

I have to watch sugar intake. I'm not diabetic but my triglycerides were creeping up on me and the doc gave me the choice. Diet or medication. Since I've tried just about every cholesterol med on the market and had bad side effects from them I didn't want to go the medication route.

BUT. Come Christmas, I will go off the diet for a few days and enjoy cookies I traditionally make. Then back on the diet I will go.

My turkey is thawing in the sink. I need to cut it into quarters as soon as it thaws and get it back in the freezer ASAP.
