The Old Folks Home

Not only is today New Year's Day but it is also a special day in our household.

Today is the Cattle Dogs' 5th birthday. Hard to believe they are 5 already and they are slowly and sometimes painfully maturing into amazing young adult dogs.

Even harder to believe that Cattle Dogs don't really mature and start to get some common sense about them until they are 7 but yeah, as you can see by the picture they are making great advancements in behavior and training!

So here are the four little heathens. My husband took the picture while I 'handled'. He apologized for the glowing eyes. I said, given their personalities it seemed to fit.

On the left is Varn. He was the runt but doesn't take any crap off of his siblings. He also knows that if he runs over to the counter where their treats are and sits and stares at them long enough somebody will come and give him one.

Next to Varn is Rocki, my sweetie. She reminds me of the old video on America's Funniest Home Videos where the dad is taking a picture of his prim and proper little girl dressed in her Easter dress sitting and singing a song until her baby brother toddles over to her and she belts him a good one before resuming her song.

Behind her to the right is Diesel. Too smart for his own good he will close the door going outside and if one of his brothers or sister is in the doggy door that is in the storm door and the door bounces off their heads, he will try to close the door harder even it if means braining his sibling senseless.

Last but not least is sweet Ben. He is always smiling, always in a good mood, very loving and sweet. He spends most of his time sitting in my lap or laying on me like a baby. He will play ball until I am exhausted.....he isn't but I am. He reminds me so much of his sister Sidney that it makes me sad sometimes. It's hard to believe that she has been gone for 3 years already.

People are always amazed that we took on these-at the time-5 puppies. But no regrets. It's been a real trip so far and like the old saying goes, the troubled dog is the one you need the most.
Awe, so darling! :love

Heavens, you have the patience of a saint! I have two dogs (border collie and corgi) and whilst I love them immensely, they drive me nuts! I can't imagine having more of them lol.
