The Old Folks Home

"No up for me. Please go away. No up. I'm sleeping in today."

They turned school out when I was in the 5th grade so we could go outside to see it down by where you are.
Yes, kids were out building small snowmen, and throwing snowballs. Wonderful right? Not so much. Nothing on any Florida highway, or road was geared for accumulated snow, including the drivers. Within an hour, all roads and highways were choked with wrecks, and/or cars that had skidded out of control, and got stuck, etc. It took over 4 hours for them to even make a dent in getting traffic moving. What saved the day was that by then, the snow was melting. It was only the fact that the snow melted, that saved our entire transit system.

THAT was the year my parents decided to move back to Florida. Because of my dad's job, we traveled a lot, and until then all my life we had only lived in tropical places in the winter. I was already suffering bad allergies, and all the winter type ailments (colds, and flu) that I had not been exposed to for all those years. It's like they converged on me all at once. When my mother, and brother woke me up that morning, so I could see the snow, I went to the phone, and booked a flight to Puerto Rico. I had friends there that I could spend the rest of the winter with. I came back in the Spring. By being able to go through the seasons here, and acclimate, by the time winter came, I did fine.

We had a bit of rain on Saturday but that was the end of the cold for us weather. We did have a low if 30F on morning and some wind that made 44F feel cold. Now we are moving into normal weather for January with lows between 41F and 53F. Highs will be up to 60F.

I was busy yesterday on the MLK day off. I made a dump run and took the old window AC. They charge us $25.00 per AC!

I am happy to be rid of them though. The Heat Pumps are so much better!

Cold this morning. I've been off the CBD all week for pre-surgery and I can really feel the winter now. Tomorrow is the big slice-n-splice day! They've slated me as first onto the table, so arrival time is 6:00 a.m. The upside to that ungodly hour is that I'll be back home by noon.
Wish me luck! With the new nickel/titanium knee I'll be all shiny on the inside. :)
