The Old Folks Home

It got down to 36 here at the coldest point. The wind persisted at aprox. 10 mph through the entire night, and just recently died down by 2 mph. Florida was a TROPICAL climate until more recent years. While 36 is not cold compared to the direst lows that some of you are experiencing, it's still respectable cold, especially for what was a tropical climate.

Our high was 17F, which compared to the past week, was balmy except for the wind made it bitter cold on the cheeks. Tomorrow we get a warm one finally and supposed to hit 33F. I am going to move these three 3-month-old silkies back out to the grow-out pen/coop. They've been in here for a week now, perfect angels and so quiet, but they'll be happier back out there. I didn't realize how many feathers they lose at this age!

My 4 silkie have their own coop. When they go outside I have a tractor they go in.

Ok, I now have NO sympathy for Quacker-Sparkles, our duck. Unless I want her to stay in her duck house, I keep the door open, so she can come, and go as she pleases. It's 48 out, and the wind is blowing from 8 - 11 mph. I went out, put her food and water into her duck house. I turned on her heating pad. She watched me do all this. I went to get her to put her in her duck house for the night, and she flew into the pool, and is still swimming. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Still raining here, flood advisories in effect for the usual streamside and low-lying areas. A woman in the Freshwater area (south of us) posting on NextDoor said her pastures were under 6 feet of water, and her big metal horse trough washed away. She was asking downstream neighbors to please keep a lookout for it, she'll come haul it home. One of those neighbors posted that with the flow they're seeing, her pasture trough is "probably out in Humboldt Bay by now".😲☹️

Meanwhile I got stubborn, set up my yard umbrella over my work area between the raspberry patch and a young cherry tree, and made war on the wretched Bermuda grass and pineberries that have invaded my little orchard & berry gardens. (They don't care what the weather's doing, they grow like radiation monsters in 1950s B-movies!) Came in crusted in mud, knees and gloves soaked, but feeling like I at least accomplished SOMETHING outdoors for a change!
