Getting rid of weeds is a chore!

Soil has a lot of dormant seeds that will sprout if the soil is disturbed.

Have you tried solarization? https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/solarization-occultation
I've done a lot of that even on large areas. I used heavy mill black plastic put down in the fall and let it do its job for a while in the fall and then again come spring. It helped get seed up and growing faster in the warmer soil too. Now I'll use a large heavy duty tart that can be used over and over again.

I have used this before starting lawns. I have seen it used on fields here too. It is good that you have reusable some reusable tarps now!

One year in the late 70's I planted sweet corn a month early in a deep furrow and covered with clear plastic and the corn did germinate much sooner than if it had been without trapping the heat. It was easy to work dirt to it a little at a time covering the anchor roots.
