So... you're letting me come pick them up this weekend, right?

Well then you'll just have to set some more OE eggs underneath another broody for me!

Here's some updated pics of my olive eggers. They are a week old now.

Broody mom and some of the babies.

This one is my favorite, so it's probably a boy.

And I'm not sure if this one is an olive egger or pure wellie, but I'm thinking boy.

I love the little blue one too. I think he's a grandbaby of mine.

Welsummers can be sexed at hatch. Girls have full eyeliner - boy's don't. From the pic, it looks like a full-blooded Welsummer Boy.

Love the chicks!

Still waiting for my broody Ameraucana to hatch out some Olive Eggers. . . Due this weekend!!

Can't wait to see my surprises. All I know is that at the time the eggs were collected and set, I had all my roos and all my hens together, and I've got 3 eggs of each color under there, all fertile, soo...

I could have some Ameraucana x Marans or Araucana x Marans or who knows what. . . . I REALLY hope to get at least one tufted Araucana cross or pure Araucana in there though!

Oh and of course I hope for some crazy colors other than blue and black.

Yes it appears that way, but I can't be certain that the welsummer eggs weren't fertilized by Ford. (the boy I have from your stock) I have both roosters in with the hens right now. So they are either welsummer/welsummer or welsummer/olive egger (2nd generation). When they feather in I should be able to tell. I have seen Ford mate with one of the wellie girls, the other one beats him up and won't let him near her. So I probably have a bit of both.

And I have 2 blues (2nd generation) so both blues are definitely from Ford, that blue one is lighter and my favorite. And of course they inherited their daddy's big beard.

I have a question: I think one of my two olive egger chicks is a male. Should I bother keeping him or should I get rid of him and breed back to blue eggers or brown eggers? They are babies from bcm roos over ameraucana hens. I realize you probably have to wait and see what the egg color looks like but I was wondering what others have typical done (bred back to egg color wise) with that cross?

The only reason I kept an olive egger rooster, was because I think he's gorgeous, and I wanted to see what his offspring lay. Once my new coop is done, he will be in it, then I will test hatch him to Ameraucana, BCM and wellie ladies. Then I'll see what range of colors the female offspring lay and go from there.

Generally, I think people keep the pullets and mate back to the father to darken the olive color of the female offspring. With a rooster, you really don't know what egg color combination he might be adding to the mix.
