The Olive-Egger thread!

One is a greyish color I think that one should turn out to be the blue color. Don't really know, just guessing. The other is a Black Copper Marans wannabe. I put twisty ties on their legs as I took them to the brooder so that I would not mix them up. The dark olive egger is black like the BCM chicks. It has the same markings and it has feathered legs.

When should I be able to see muffs and beards on the olive eggers? So far I can't tell.

Jeremy, I'm wondering if the same hen laid Illia's hatching eggs...but...I just sold that hen last week!

They'll definitely have muffs/beards! Here is what the black & blue, if they are pullets, should look like:

You should see the muffs/beard by 4-6 weeks, I'd think. I can see them as day olds now that I've had a bunch of them...but you do have to sorta look for them:

Your birds are so pretty. I am of course hoping for mine to be girls . At any rate no matter how much I look at my little guys, I can't see any muffs or beads. I am sure it's my lack of experience and not knowing what to look for. The grey has the begining of feathers already coming at the very tips of its wings.

I don't have any Olive Eggers from you.

I only wish I had a girl who laid eggs like that. . .

But I do have a "purple" egg layer from you!!

Her eggs so far look like a mulberry shake with black sprinkles on top.

Really? Hmmm...I thought you did. Oh, I know why - because we PMd quite a bit about your ones from Heidi! Sheesh.

By the way - I should have said - those 2 chicks pictured above were pullets, have straight combs, and lay olive eggs!

Wow, I didn't think the straight comb birds would lay olive eggs. So those little guys must be all grown up now.

As soon as my chicks grow you all know I am going to be asking a whole bunch of questions. For instance I do know the easter eggers and olive eggers are supposed to have the pea comb so as to get the good eggs. But no matter how many pictures I look at of young chicks I can't see the differences that all of you seem to know at a glance.
