Good luck with the rest of the hatch! I'm trying reallllly reallllly hard not to order some eggs. I just keep imagining chicks in the kitchen all winter long, and I've been able to stay strong thus far.

These pics aren't helping! Congrats!

You could always keep them in the garage...

I'm in the same boat, no chicks until the spring of 2011!

I'm a sucker. I have one incubator right now which was reserved with Olive Eggers this next batch, but now I'm buying two more bators just so I can run three batches at once for the winter.

Plus I don't have snow and crazy frozen winters like most, so not much worries.

I have three new babies since I went to bed last night! :)

One is VERY tiny! They all look healthy though and adorable! I'll take some pics this afternoon, I have to go to the feed store and get some supplies..

At least I know what a straight comb is. But I figgure better the rooster have the straight comb than the pullet. I sure hope she is a pullet. She just looks different there were the comb will be so hopefully pea comb.

I have a question for the olive experts here; Which hen should I put my roo over?
Here is my EExBarnevelder roo, Tequila
22798_tequila.jpg
He hatched out of a blue-green egg, and the Barrnies are a medium, coppery brown (here are examples of both eggs)

Since he was the only one I hatched (no hen siblings to give an idea of egg color ), what hen do I put him over? I specifically want to use him because I want a hen of his color in my flock,(his mom was beautiful, and killed by a dog this spring)

and want an OE as well. Anyway, my hen choices are: Barnevelder,Speckled Sussex, Pink Egger (Orp x EE), Ameraucana or Easter Egger. Any suggestions?

Calculator says I could get a 'white patterned gold incomplete spangled' as a result of my roo with SS hen. That would be cool, too!
