The Olive-Egger thread!

I know that this is somewhere in that thread, but 200+ pages.. please answear me : i have an ameraucana rooster [green egg line] - is there any chance to get an olive egger from that cross? I could cross him with a]marans b]rhode island c] maybe welsummer. Does anyone have pics of eggs from green egg crosses?

Hey Yall...

I'm being lazy... Gotta question to ask... I'm hatching out OE roo (pea combed and muffed/beareded) roo over Welsummer and Marans hens. All the chicks have single combs. That means no olive eggers? Just brown egg layers? I have the breeding pen swapped around w the Welsummer Roo over EE hens (only one green egg layer in the bunch, the rest blue) since getting all these single combs. My thinking, though it may be wrong, is that without the pea comb, they'll just lay brown eggs. Am I right or wrong?

Okay, trying one more time to get an olive egger! The last one I got turned out to have a straight comb and lays beautiful chocolate brown eggs like her progeny (though she herself hatched out of an olive egg... her mother was an olive egger, daddy was a BCM, so she and her sister lay brown eggs).

Sooooo I acquired some eggs the other day that we are setting this evening--beautiful, pale greenish-blue EE eggs. The EE was covered by a BCM roo, so the offspring *should* lay olive eggs. First generation OE project eggs, got them for next to nothing. We're setting 9 of those tonight. I hope to get at least one OE pullet out of the deal!

I know some folks, myself included, are getting jaded on the Blue/Black Copper thing. I'm working on something much more boombastic as well, these were just a breeding of opportunity and for lack of blue-egg roosty.
