The Olive-Egger thread!

Good dark Marans egg genes can really darken up some egg genes. I crossed my roo from a super dark egg to a lav /plit black orpington girl. Her offspring hen lays a #4 Marans colored egg. That is quite a jump on the color chart from orp egg to marans.

Then I got on this thread to find out more.

Now I really don't know what I have because I never considered that Marans - EE x did not = OE!

My roo is a blue copper and the egg was light green from an EE. I hope that it will be a OE pullet because it is a nice dark blue chick. I know,Iknow.Where's the pics? Broody mom is protective to say the least. Well I know the other chick is a FBCM because that was the only ones that hatched.Should have been more but it's one of those "will these eggs hatch?" type of deals.

Okay so I said I'd post photos of my new olive egg. . . Never got around to it. . . Til now.

The eggs on the far right are Olive Egger eggs. The eggs in the middle are Ameraucana eggs. The eggs on the far left are Araucana eggs.

The really dark olive egg in the center is soft shelled, the egg on the bottom is brittle shelled, the one on top is that first one I mentioned with the beautiful dark brownish blackish speckles. The darker one in the middle is her second egg. She's giving me 1 every other day so far, but as you can see, they're getting darker!

The egg on the bottom right I have no clue who laid it. . . But it isn't hers. I found it the same day I found the dark, soft shelled one. I think it is either my other Olive Egger's or it is my Easter Egger's. Funny, because my EE's are a month older, yet laying after my OE's.

Forgot to add. . . Here's the new layer of my olive eggs, the clean faced blue girl on the right. The enormous blue boy is her brother.

This is my only other Olive Egger pullet, a rumpless girl who's half duckwing Araucana, half Wheaten Marans. Her brother is on the left, too.

Gorgeous eggs Illia! So is your blue girl first generation of Marans/Ameraucana?

I love the speckled egg, that's what I was trying to go for with my welsummer. Obviously it would take me longer to get there using a wellie over a marans.

Heavens no - If I had an Ameraucana who passed on clean faced offspring I'd get rid of it. And, I'm a snob, I could care less for using blue Ameraucana x BC Marans. My blue pair there are from BC Marans x Blue Cuckoo Araucana. Was hoping to save some cuckoos out of the mix, but got none that time around.

My only Ameraucana mixes are Blue Wheaten Am x Blue Wheaten Marans.

Picture of the olive egger chicks I ended up with from my St. Paddy's day hatch: the blonde and brown ones are olive eggers (with the exception of the big boy down in the left hand corner, he may be an EE)

I know, and that's just her first and second egg! I can't wait to see how dark the 3rd and beyond will be. . . I think the big credit goes to the Marans parents. Most of the eggs in my Avatar are laid by the same parents.

Got no olive egg yesterday, so I'm hoping for a solid shelled one today.
