The Olive-Egger thread!

Some pics of my 4 weeks olds from Amy -
First, my three f2 OE ladies. Wellie x OE. Looks like one has a Single comb, one Pea comb, the other I'm unsure...

Hey just found this thread today and its awesome

Can someone help me , If I new 1 month ago what I learned today I would have separated my BCM roo and my 2 EE and mated them . However I had my flock together and my RIR is the Dominate ROO , The BCM still gets his but no telling witch one fertilized the green and blue eggs. I just hatched them this week and I was wondering if I could still get Olive eggs with the RIR ? Also wonder if someone could post some pictures of that cross , chicks , RIR roo over EE one is a wheaten and the other is brown copper penciled , and or BCM over the same EE's I have one chick that has slight feathering and my BCM is the only chicken i have with feathering it has wight &yellowish area on head feathered shanks and I think a Pea comb , the problem is I have BSL chicks in the same hatch UUUUUG so I dont No could that chick be from my BR and BCM cross . Im so frustrated I just would have done things alot different if I new.

I can't help but note that many of the eggs shown on this list are very round, they don't seem to have a small end. Is that a characteristic of a particular breed? My green egg layers lay a more "standard" shaped egg that is noticeably smaller at one end, as have all the chickens I remember having.

Spitman...this is what a breeder told me when I started breeding OEs. In order to get the olive coloration it takes 1 brown gene and 2 blue genes. If I am wrong someone please chime in and correct me.

My OEs come from a Welsummer/EE x EE. My oldest pair are about 4 mo. old. The roo started crowing last week...really pitiful sounding.

I am anxious to see what they lay. I am not expert but I really don't think you will get an olive egg out of your RIR. I have noticed that OE have a lot of barring when they are young. Mine started loosing most of their around 3 mo. If the OEs from your pair do not have a true olive egg what you would do is breed back to an EE. That will add the 2nd blue gene. Hope things work out!

Yes smarsh, the BCM breed is working towards the more spherical egg shape. The first time I received BCM hatching eggs from Wynette I panicked!!!!

couldn't tell how to place them into the egg turner........ended up getting some goose egg trays for my turner. In the goose size trays the eggs are placed on their sides, that way you can't go wrong.
I've since learned I can 'stack' eggs on their side, on top of the eggs that are in the chicken size turner trays.

Hey everyone! I live in Nebraska and I'm looking to get some olive eggers. I have 6 week old EE and black coppers but I can't wait to get the olive eggers. I'm very impatient

I just love the olive eggs. Does anyone know where I can get some in Nebraska? Or close by? I've been on the look out and haven't found anything. Thanks for any suggestions.

Wish you live in New York...I have some 2gen ones and I haven't gotten one person interested in them! They are blues and Black Amer covered by a BCM and The same cross covered by a BCM...of course I probably don't know what I am talking about...but the eggs are pretty and the girls too!... Good luck and I hope you find some soon!

I just found this thread. I have Welsummer hens and roosters, and Lavender Ameraucana hens running together. About two months ago, I hatched out my first OE chick. I love the coloring. I'm thinking "it" is a "he". What do you all think?
