Hey, Wyyyyyyneeeeette! I just got my first egg from my OExOE offspring (both mama and daddy came from your eggs) and it's a tiny little beauty! I was curious what the color saturation would be like for an OExOE offspring, but it's really nice, much darker, more "olivey" ( <---- technical term
) then I had thought. It's actually a little darker, I think, then her mother's first egg was. The photo was the closest I could get, though it really doesn't show how dark olive it truly is.
I'll post a picture of the hen tomorrow, but it should be noted that from the OExOE cross, I ended up with 5 hens, 2 with peacombs, 3 without. None of the others have started laying yet.
PS Also pictured, my first true Ameracuana's just started laying a couple weeks ago too and I'm super pleased with their egg color too!
A man named Brian Fox, he's based out of Morganton, NC, I believe. I can get you contact info, if you'd like. He specializes in blue Ameraucanas and they are just gorgeous birds, I'm very, very pleased. These eggs were of the very first couple they laid, they have definitely lightened up in color since, but are still a gorgeous shade. The eggs in the picture are now like 3 wks old, haha, but I just can't bring myself to break/eat them (and I don't need to be incubating any more eggs this year!), they're just the prettiest darn eggs, I think I'm going to blow them out.

You know, slightly. I'll give you a full report once I get a couple more of her eggs, but I'd say that the gold tint is definitely lessened then her mama's eggs, but it's still there. Though, I know you don't like it, but I LOVE it.

Hmmm, not sure what you mean exactly. The pillow is blue/green, two of the eggs pictured are blue and the color temperature outside was rather cool for the morning. I know everybody's screen shows color differently, but the colors are as accurate to the real life eggs as I could get on my crappy little camera.
omg I LOVE this message thread!! I am soaking up every bit of info!
Bird genetics are fascinating to me. I am getting blue/blue wheaton ameraucana fertile eggs this summer from a breeder and am sooo excited to get some Marans after that. I have a mixed flock of hens right now and my sweet husband is so understanding...so far. lol!
We are building a new coop soon and thank god we haven't started it because my chicken plans just keep growing and growing. I can't help myself!!
Egg colors are sooo fun! Right now I get medium brown, light brown and shades of blue/green (EE's). I am gonna go for olive as soon as possible. What other colors are there? What about lavender? You would think it is possible. A blue base with a touch of warmth...some redish brown?
My husband says I am like Frankenstein. lol
Ok now back to reading all the old posts.. I am on page 14.
