The Olive-Egger thread!

I have some "accidental" chicks
tongue.png

Dad: Olive egger (cuckoo marans x ameraucana) he is barred with muffs, beard, pea comb.
Mom: Barred Rock
Chicks: appear to be barred in coloration, combs are looking pea-ish.

The female offspring, what color will their eggs likely be?

Don't be surprised if they lay brown. I have heard of many pea combed chickens laying brown eggs and there are two doses of brown egg genes one from each parent. That is the fun of EE and Olive Eggers.... what color will they lay?

I have a 7 week old black copper maran cockeral up for grabs, it's local pick up only in North MS. He has messiness in his feather patter, and is a cull. But I'm sure he still carries the dark egg genes. You could breed him to EE's in the spring to get olive eggers. Any takers? FREE

I have been anxiously waiting for these eggs!! From my olive egger X olive eggers.

The middle one has a ton of bloom. Not sure who layed it or if the first and second are from the same pullet. The one on the right is from a 1/4 cochin 3/4 olive egger.

I put them on top of a cooler for color comparison and the pics are natural light. I got the middle egg wet so you can see the color.

Now I just sold 9 pullets and 7 had pea combs. They were 10 weeks old too. Better go throw a batch in the bator because I want more!!

Has anyone ever made smallish OEs with Marans and Bantam Ameraucanas?

I would be interested in buying eggs if anyone wants to put a cuckoo maran roo over bantam Ameraucanas. (Can you do that?)

I really want small/bantam cuckoo OEs. I would be open to ideas!

I would not use the Bantam Welsummers for the bantam OE's...the bantam Welsummers are still too light so your best bet are the Marans if you can get it as dark as you can!

There are no Bantam Marans that I've heard of with that chocolate color in the eggs...I would go with cuckoo hens regular size and use a little rooster with a good blue color and on the spot has cuckoo olive eggers regular size she might/could help you get what you are looking for.
