The Olive-Egger thread!

So I kept this boy after all.. They're 31 weeks old. He's so handsome but is a little over-protective of his girls. I dont like the way he looks at me though! lol

Then there is this girl, I know she has a single comb and is 1/4 cochin 3/4 olive egger and her egg is a light brown (borderline pink some days) but look at that sweet face! A favorite for sure!

He is gorgous! I love the snowy beard.

I have another question, and again it may have been already answered. If you want to use cuckoo Marans and get sex links, what color EEs can you use to achieve this? I know you aren't supposed to use white.

If you are using cuckoo Marans hens, you can use a black rooster. The boys will inherit the cuckoo/barring gene and be black with a white dot on their head. The girls will be solid black. I used a Lavender Roo with cuckoo hen last year and that gave the same results.

Here is a link to a very informative Sex Link thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information/330

I linked you to the most current page, but go back to the beginning. The first few posts are full of informative charts showing different Sex-Link pair ups.

You can use any color roo, I would not use white either. You never now if they are dominate white or not. Just don't use a barred roo.... I would not use any patterned roos.

I am going to be making some meat birds at some point and may use a BR hen with a black copper marans roo and will get sex links.
