The Olive-Egger thread!

I'm neutral towards chocolate-colored birds, however your platinum/dun is a stunning combination. Poe is gorgeous.

Dun is also referred to as Chocolate. It can look like this.

This is not my bird, just an example I'm using.

Dun behaves similarly to the Blue gene. It dilutes Black to a brown hue. 1 "copy" of the gene produces Dun birds, 2 "copies" of the gene produces Khaki birds. Like with Blue, 1 "copy" produces Blue birds and 2 "copies" of the Blue gene produces Splash birds.

Like Blue, Dun can come in many different shades.

I refer to the color by it's genetic name rather than using the term "Chocolate" to not confuse Dun with the sex linked Chocolate color.

Here's a single combed 'extra'. I kept him because he was the ugliest little thing and I couldn't figure out what was so different about him from the rest I've hatched.. It was his white saddle feathers! But boy do I love this guy now, he's maybe 20 weeks old.

Him and his boyfriend roaming around. The red is one from the same hatch with a pea comb and isnt dominant white.

What a pretty boy, I love his coloring!

She is a lovely girl. I have hatched only my Dominque, Kacoo Maran and Ameracauna eggs so far and I have a lovely little flock of fresh chicks to look forward to. I also have a double yoker in the incubator, has anyone ever hatched one? Just curious.

I obtained some chickens from the next door neighbor because they were moving. Most of what she thought was hens, turned out to be roos, but they are red with tiny pea combs. The most beautiful coloring. These are my olive eggs so far.

Hello, Magg! Cute chickies you have there! Congrats on them!

Double yolkers seldom hatch, and it's really not a good idea to try since they will need help out of the shell if they DO develop. Of course, any time you open the bator during hatch time, you lose precious humidity they need for hatching successfully. JMO.

I'm super excited that my olive egger gals have begun to lay for the year!

I also have a couple of 22-week old pullets that I'm waiting on to begin laying. Combs are red...come on, ladies!

Well I just hatched hopefully some future Bantam Olive eggers

I had Bantam Cuckoo Marans over a Bnatam Lavander Ameracuana and Bantam wheaten A hen

had perfect 10 out 10 hopefully got couple hens and find out around August

There is some Bantam welsummers and 3 Bantam Marans in with them

Good to know for the future about the double yoke. I've never tried before. I use the brinsea mini eco with the resevouir in the center that stays with water in it, so I'm hoping they will do ok. I won't know until about the first week in March so I will keep you posted on that one way or the other. Thanks for the advice.
