The Olive-Egger thread!

Make no difference! The key to olive eggers is the pea comb. If keep the birds with pea combs you increase you chances of olive eggs. I have Marans Roos over EE and Olive Eggers. I still get pea combs.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'm glad to have it confirmed.

On another note, we had a horrendous thunderstorm the other night and I lost electricity for about 6 hours. My incubator full of Ameracauna and olive eggs (Day 12) went down to 85 degrees. Has anyone had eggs hatch after being this cold for a few hours?

Quote: YES! Don't toss them. I had the incubator off over night maybe even 12 hrs and still had a very good hatch. Then the hatcher was out for many hours and still hatched. I had the incubator off another time, not a good hatch but some hatched. I think 85 is still warm enough that some should make it just fine. Keep us up dated! Good luck

Since I'm not good with genetics I have a question. Would it be possible to create a naked neck olive egger? I'm thinking no. You could create green eggs but could not achieve the olive color. is my thinking right?

You would not get them the first generation. Get them to the green eggs stage and then add the dark egg genes.

yesterday I picked up 5 Cream Legbar crossed with Crele Penedesenca and welsummer (well she had 3 welsummer and 1 penedesenca hen ) with the legbar. I was hoping to breed them back to my Crele Penedesenca rooster. hopefully get a olive egger....
The 1st generation crosses appear to have been autosexable. I will keep my eye on them for sure though especially do to the having to types of hens.
all three of these breeds are autosexable.

I will try and get pics up but I got 1 chick hat is much more grey with a spot on the head. others are brown. maybe chance but maybe on to something????

Will be driving from Houston, Texas to Summersville Missouri. WOULD love to bring a couple of olive egger chicks home with me. If anyone out there has chicks that I could pick up on the way home (Missouri, Arkansas, Texas) without getting too far off route, PLEASE contact me immediately!

I'm only looking for first generation OE's and I really like the color cross of the Maras roo over the Ameraucana hens.

Thanks!

0n May 30th I set 15 green eggs under my BO. She is a great mama. This makes the second batch for her this year. The first was a splash maran over EE. All the chicks where soft blue some with feathered legs. The batch she is sitting on now has a Blue Maran roo over EE's. I'm thinking they will be dark blue or wild colors. I know I will have extra Olive eggers from this season. Or I can gather eggs for hatching. But I'm in Chattanooga, TN area. a bit of a drive LOL

Copper12, I was really interested in that mix. I would like to know how it all ends up. I saw some cream legbar/Penedesenca hatching eggs for sell and I was really really tempted to get them. I have never hatched chicks before and I don't know if I have space for more chicks, but I really thought they would lay beautiful eggs!
