About the crossing Olive Eggers back to Araucanas - Join the club.

A lot of us want to do that. I know I'm going to. Supposedly with the true blue of an Araucana's egg, you should turn the Olive egg back to a nice green color. Some number of posts ago I mentioned it too, how I was hoping by doing this I would get a "grass green" egg.

My plan: BC Marans x Ameraucana - Olive Egger . . . Olive Egger x Araucana - true green egg.

Here are the roosters my olive eggers will be out of

Degus is my new rooster.....True Araucana, rumpless and tufted (from blue egg layers)

This is Rudy, rumpless, clean faced true Araucana (from blue egg layers)

Roger.........Ameraucana rooster (recently re-homed to a friend but he bred hens before leaving eggs that are in the incubator now)

Blueboy.....Ameraucana rooster and brother to Roger, also re-homed but bred hens too. (from green egg layers)

My current hens are: 3 cuckoo marans, 1 BC maran pullet, 1 wheaten maran pullet, 1 wheaten ameraucana, 3 black ameraucana (2 are pullets) and 2 blue ameraucana (pullets), 1 duckwing araucana pullet. I am pretty certain all of the maran eggs in the incubator now are out of my cuckoo hens. The rooster Degus just arrived so the next chicks will include his chicks. I penned the hens up with Degus so some of the next eggs I hatch will be his chicks. I also have a BC Maran rooster that I've not decided whether I'll keep or not, he was sold to me as a pullet. He's not breeding yet but will be soon so I have to make up my mind soon.

Degus is beautiful! But I believe your Ameraucanas are either EEs or EE in the term that they're cross-colored, Am I right? They look like Ameraucanas, but they look like a cross of two colors.

The roosters could be crosses. I raised them from a rooster I bought from a breeder as an Ameraucana and hens that looked like what I saw in photo's as Ameraucana but that doesn't mean that much since I didn't really know much more than they laid blue/green eggs then. I gave that rooster away but still have the 2 hens. One is black and the other one tan with markings.

Here are the 2 hens and rooster that the 2 young roosters are out of but I'm fairly certain that both of them were from the eggs of hen one.

Thank you! They are pretty cool. I hope to have some amazingly cool colored chicks too, I'll have some for sale once I have 3 or 4 pullets for my own flock.

Yeah, I'd classify them all as Easter Eggers then. The first hen shown especially. Still, they're quite pretty!

I bought the 2 blue and 2 black Ameraucana pullets from a breeder that knows his stuff and his flock is from John Blehm and Paul Smith bloodlines and they look like my black hen, the brown hen is a bit fluffier so she could be EE, I just don't know. I do know these 4 pullets are purebred and they're very nice. I may want to keep the young maran rooster at least until I have some chicks out of him and these 4 young ameraucana's to cross back to my Araucana roosters later........so many cool ways to go with the flock I have.

I just hatched out what I hope is 4 little olive eggers! Cuckoo marans roo over ameraucana hens. 2 of the little guys have feathered feet and muffs so they should be cool looking when they grow up.

Can you put a "brown" roo over a blue egg layer and get the green eggs, or does it have to be specific breeds? I see alot of Ameraucana and Marans on this thread. Can you put a "blue" egg roo over a brown egg layer and get green also?
