I agree most likely he does not carry the blue egg shell gene. He has a 3 to 5% chance of inheriting the blue egg shell gene from the hen while having a single comb.

Once again this is why i only use blue egg layers. Plus the the the green layers eggs ate already deluted with a lighter brown egg.

When running a BCM roo over Wheaten/Blue Wheaten hens what color will the chicks be when hatched?

I did this last year but only got 3 cockerels and if I remember correctly they were all penquin at hatch

I've crossed a bcm roo with blue wheaten hen and all my chicks are blue

Wheaten is recessive and so they SHOULD breed like Blue Black and Splash. So black x blue should give you 50/50 of each color. UNLESS your BCM roo carries Wheaten genes, then you would get some wheaten chicks.

Another reason I like to use PURE Ameraucanas so they are more likely to have 2 copies of the pea comb and blue egg genes.
