The Olive-Egger thread!

Quote: Thank you I do like the Wheaten look much better and the feathered legs are a bonus, now to see what colored egg I will get.

Wheaten babies are blonde?! Who knew? I've been crossing my BCMs with my EEs to get OEs, all my babies are blue. I would love a little variety.

I had a raccoon attack early summer, lost all my OEs except one that was broody. I pulled every OE egg out of my fridge (some a week old) and popped them under my broody. 6 hatched, all blue. Now let's think PINK!

Yes they are Blonde and will start getting colored wing feathers. The dark colored feathers are boys and the light colored feathers are girls.

I'm trying to understand egg shell color. I read that all eggs are blue or white, and that the green or brown colors are "paint" put on by the hen. I've seen this with my own hens. The inside of the egg is usually pale blue or white.

I cracked open these olive eggs the other day, and was surprised that one is olive all the way through.

The one on the left is olive inside and out. The other one is olive outside and pale blue inside. Why is this? I appreciate any information!

It is a thin shelled blue egg with brown coating, so the shell looks green?

Hmm.... I don't remember if this was a particularly thin-shelled egg. So you think maybe the shell was composed mostly of coating? I'll be interested to see if I get another like this, or if all the eggs from this hen are like this. I actually don't even know who it came from, but just noticed the shell difference while cooking.

Got my first olive yesterday, a bit light but not bad. Not sure which of the 17 pullets laid this one.

I'm also not sure if these eggs are all from the same girl or not. left to right, from 9/2, 9/3 and 9/4
