The Olive-Egger thread!

I was banding my flock today and took lots of pictures! Thought I would share some. I've yet to see eggs from any of these girls, but hope to soon!

I just found out that Pumpkin (my young "Ameracauna" roo is alas an Easter Egger as someone
had recently suggested. Green on the legs really coming in.

So I'm thinking I should not cross him to try and get more OE's since I really don't know what egg color gene he will add to my mix. I already have a gorgeous Birchen Marans roo, but thought I would keep my Ameracauna roo as well so I had more options as far as crossing.
I tried three or four times to get olivers by breeding my Welsummer and Marans hens to an EE boys. Have not succeeded yet. All the pullets I kept laid brown; most had modified pea comb some had single combs. Of course all the cockerels had beautiful tight pea combs ;-)

So this time around I'm putting a pure Ameraucana over my Marans hens. He hatched from a very blue egg; no greenish tinge at all. Hopefully it will work this time around.

Beautiful eggs aart!

My OE pullet, who is over 6 months old now, just started to grow in a little bit of a comb over the weekend. It gives me some hope that I might have an olive egg by the end of the year.

Thank you!

NICE...especially when wet, makes the color POP!

So from what cross is the layer?
I actually got mine from Meyer hatchery. I am not sure what cross they use. But the girl that laid it would be between 2 of them. They are both blue/grey feathered feet have a pea comb. The only difference is one has a beard and muffs the other is clean faced.

Beautiful Olive color!
I know I love it!
