I tried three or four times to get olivers by breeding my Welsummer and Marans hens to an EE boys. Have not succeeded yet. All the pullets I kept laid brown; most had modified pea comb some had single combs. Of course all the cockerels had beautiful tight pea combs ;-)I was banding my flock today and took lots of pictures! Thought I would share some. I've yet to see eggs from any of these girls, but hope to soon!
I just found out that Pumpkin (my young "Ameracauna" roo is alas an Easter Egger as someone
had recently suggested. Green on the legs really coming in.
So I'm thinking I should not cross him to try and get more OE's since I really don't know what egg color gene he will add to my mix. I already have a gorgeous Birchen Marans roo, but thought I would keep my Ameracauna roo as well so I had more options as far as crossing.
So this time around I'm putting a pure Ameraucana over my Marans hens. He hatched from a very blue egg; no greenish tinge at all. Hopefully it will work this time around.
