The Olive-Egger thread!

Such pretty eggs! My OE is 23 weeks now, one of five pullets we hatched but the only OE in the group. No eggs from any of that hatch yet! The ladies are making me impatient. I'm hoping that they lay before winter truly sets in, or I may have to wait until spring.

Peep_Show....
For a 6 week old the comb and legs look like a cockerel, but s/he lacks color so perhaps it will grow up to be a pullet. The chick also seems to have a straight comb. It would probably be a brown egg producer, but only time will tell.

Straight comb due to the fact it's a Marans x Legbar cross, I believe.

Yeah, we'll see what happens. DH has grown kind of fond of Pat and does not relish the thought of Pat Pot Pie.

I just commented about the comb because my pullet comes from a hatch that is 3/4 BCM and 1/4 Ameraucana. The hens with straight combs are all laying dark brown eggs.

I hope yours is an olive though!!!

That is true for the ameraucana cross.

Sadly, it does not work at all for Cream Legbar crosses. They will never have a pea comb.

I had to go re-read the original post. I didn't see it was a CCL and not an ameraucana cross. I have an Ameraucana x CCL rooster with a huge comb. He's very pretty though and has a lot nicer build than a straight CCL. I hope he passes that on to his chicks.
