My OE laid her first egg today! It is lighter than we were hoping for, but since it is her first I'm hoping it will darken up a little. She is either 25 or 26 weeks (can't remember), and the first of her group to lay.

Her's is in the middle front row, between a EE and a BLRW.

In th emiddle, for size comparison.

Close up. She was very quiet, didn't even sing an egg song, snuck in the box and was back out in minutes!.

I have an amazing Olive egger!! Billy layed her 1st egg ever today!!!

Got an egg from my first successful olive egger. So excited!

Top L - Barred Rock, Btm L - Birchen Marans
Top R - Failed OE, Btm R - Successful OE

Black hen lays the pretty olive egg, she does have the pea comb. White hen lays the pretty medium brown and inherited the straight comb from dad.

Cross was Birchen Marans x Easter egger

There are still more of their sisters who are not laying quite yet. I am assuming those w/ the pea comb (most) will lay olive eggs. We'll see!

Looks a bit grayish. Maybe not the shade you hoped for, but it is very pretty still.

It does look a little gray, today's egg was a little more on the green side, so hopefully they continue to improve! This was today's

I see rainbow colors on paper towel. Was the photo color corrected or is there a light changing the color?

Try taking a picture with different light and make sure there is no color correction. That will mess up the color on other monitors.

probably the light, not the best lighting in my kitchen for pics. overhead recessed lighting. The egg actually looks better in person, maybe I should take it outside in some natural light or something? Or I could try not obsessing over the color of my chicken's egg! Having our first olive egger is exciting though.

Okay, so maybe it makes me crazy, but I took the two eggs outside to photo them, with an EE egg and a RSL egg for comparison.

It is fine to obsess!

Save the eggs for a week and then take a group picture--outside with natural lighting.

First eggs are very special.

I find the outdoor pics to be much better. What breed is the hen at the bottom of the picture, Black with white lacing? Beautiful!

My newest girl has begun squatting,
I'm really curious to see what color her eggs are because of her traits.
She's a 3rd generation EExRSL, She's got a single comb (With waddles/No beard) and green legs.
The red rooster is her father.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! ^-^
