The Olive-Egger thread!

what cross was it?
A mixed Ameraucana(my breeding project bird) crossed with a medium/dark brown egg laying Red Star hen. Her egg color isn't as dark as many Red Stars I have had but she still produces some good Olive Eggers. The last hen that I kept from her was an amazing layer, she started laying around 20 weeks old and laid every day, skipping 1 or 2 days in a month.

Meet "my" very first hatched chicks! I've purchased and hatched eggs before, but these Olive Eggers are the first chicks from adult birds of my own...a Blue Copper Marans over a Blue Ameraucana and a Splash Ameraucana.

my wheaten ameraucauana x red star has the coolest feathers! Gorgeous barring and lacing in gold-red, and black splashes. I'll probably post a comb pic tomorrow to see what y'all think. Chuck is 9 weeks old.

Not too interesting at this point, but here are my 3 day old Olive egger chicks. They are 1/2 BCM, 1/4 amerauanca and 1/4 Legbar. It is interesting that two of them have white head spots and two don't I doubt they are sex linked, we'll have to wait and see. One of them has a pea comb.

These are my 4 month old olive eggers. They are the result of a silver ameraucana rooster over welsummer hens. The eggs were included as extras when I purchased some pure breed hatching eggs from a local breeder. I ended up with 2 pullets and a cockerel. Both pullets have slate legs and the cockerel has white legs. I am anxious to see what color their eggs will be!
