The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks everyone, now hoping for a couple more to put in there..so I can get one of those pretty OE egg laying girls! Will be a while before I know if I'll get that color or not..and they better not be all boys. (Welie mom and EE dad was this hens parents) The Welie mom laid the prettiest Olive Egg, saved the little girl, which is now this hen. .. Only to lay a brown egg..a pretty dark brown egg. :) Interesting how this genetic thing works out. Glad you all know how it works.

Wellie laid olive egg??

I have 8 pullets from 2 EE hens and Wellie cock.....oldest 3 should be laying with a couple weeks.
A friend had her broody hatch out one from this cross last fall, she laid the Wellie brown tho.

@gimmie birdies what's the purple pink gene?
The purplish eggs are a certain type of bloom on a brown egg, pink is over lighter brown, purple are on a darker brown. The pinkish egg here on the bottom is a blue copper Marans egg that had a lot of bloom on it that day. I have a darker Marans layer that occasionally gives me a purple egg. It's not a consistent thing as far as I know, though some EE lay pink eggs (I don't think that's a bloom-y egg, just the color for individual hens?).

My surrogate broody hatched out 5 olive eggers and 2 Wheaten Marans earlier this week! Yay! They are so cute. I have read a lot of this thread, but I want to make sure I understand before I start giving birds away. I have 3 chicks that hatched from olive eggs that were crossed back to a Wheaten Marans. Two of the chicks have single combs, so does this mean that they will most likely lay brown eggs if they are pullets? And the chicks with pea combs will most likely lay olive eggs if they are pullets? One of the pea combed chicks has actually been crossed back twice if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Yes, she was a pure weli too..dad was the EE..I now have the baby of that mom, that has grown, and doesn't know how to lay a green egg. :/

I do believe this is the first real looking...pink.. egg I've seen called pink. It's very pretty!

Love you OE eggs.

One of my Partridge Penedesencas lays an egg that looks puple-pink

If you get it wet, it looks dark brown.

3 or 4 days worth of eggs. below I took a pic of my olive with egg with a white one. one gal was so excited about olive eggs she said I never want white eggs again, but I think white makes the olive egg's color "pop".
