The Olive-Egger thread!

Got our first olive egg yesterday. Very pleased with the color. The two blue pullet eggs are Legbar over Easter Eggers, and the pinkish beige is a Swedish Flower Hen. Have five more olive egger pullets yet to lay. Can't wait to see what comes out. Kern

Really Nice!! Congrats!

Is there a way to tell when they're younger (before laying age) if they're an olive egger versus an easter egger? I bought what was suppose to be ameraucanas. Turns out they aren't purebred. Don't get me wrong, I love my little girls (I have 5 of these ones). These are my girls, thoughts?:

Genesis, the white one, is just standing funny, her foot isn't normally turned in. Bubbles, the one with the crooked toe, was like that, but it's gotten more obvious as she's grown, it doesn't bother her. Tiny, the one squatted down normally doesn't squat, she's just being a goob in the pic.

The only way to tell is by a genetic test to see if they have the blue egg shell gene. The brown coating genes are more complicated. There was a person in California that would test for you but is appears like she has stopped.

You may be able to find someone that would test for you though.

Here are my 3 olive eggers. can anyone give me an idea what breeds these are?

this one I call pretty boy, he has been practicing his morning crow.

This is a pullet? no comb...

a cockeral? he is older than the other one.

How do you know they are Olive Eggers?
Who ever you bought them from should be able to tell you what breeds they used to make them.

First pic looks like it might have some cream legbar in it...other two, I don't know.
Third look to be a cockerel.
How old are they?

Out of my silver Laced Wyandotte hen and lavender ameraucana, I have had 4 silver Laced olive eggers, 3 blacks, and 1 white. The SL Seem to carry mostly their mother's traits. Pink legs and lacing, muffs and a beard per their dad. White is the same. The blacks have slate legs like their dad. Muffs and beard as well.

Weird thing. out of the 3 silvers, 1 has a rose comb like mom, 1 pea comb like dad, and 1 single comb from a recessive gene on both sides. The white is pea combed.

Here are some. Far left is an Easter Egger, same amer dad. Second from left is a pure ameraucana. The other three have the same mom and dad.
