I have Wheaten Ameraucaunas and my neighbor has Wheaten Marans. I am thinking about borrowing one of his roosters and making Wheaten Olive Eggers. Has anyone done this?

Quote: I want one of those eggs. I will work on that eventually
Quote: hmmm but that would require another penwhere the isbar hens could hang out with my white empordanesa![]()
No through it in with your Olive Eggers
I would go with the eggs, especially since you are picking them up and not having them shipped. 4 is better then 1.ADVICE please. I get my new incubator for Christmas. My DD will be driving past Valdosta where Jordan's farm is. Would you just buy one Isbar or would you get four hatching eggs for the same price? She could pick it/them up for me. What would you do?
Get the eggsI think ordering an Isbar chick is straight run only. I actually think I want a roo. I only have one roo (which at the time was a mistake, but he has the brown egg layer gene, I think....actually a 3rd generation olive egger hatched from a green egg), but I have new blue egg layer pullets growing out and I think it would be awesome to have the Isbar to breed with them to get some interesting colored eggs. Not really doing this as a business......just for myself and a few friends who I know would like some chicks next spring. BUT!, if I did get some females and a roo, I would definitely build a separate area and think about selling their chicks. The eggs are $10 each, a chick is $39 each. If I was going there myself, I could probably come away with picking out a hen....but do I want a hen or do I want a roo??????????? Would I have trouble with my other roo? My chickens have always free ranged. What would I do? Alternate days with the roos and hens to free range so I can keep the Isbars pure? What do you guys do? It's so simple now...
Keep that girl. I got some eggs from Wynette and they are the nicest olive eggs, after the next generation, I would take it back to an Olive Egger. My first homegrown Olive Eggers are starting to lay. 2 are laying a great olive color the newest one is laying a darker brown egg with just a hint of green.... not sure I like that color. If I keep her, should I breed her to an Ameraucana to lighten up the eggs or an Olive Egger to get a better variety of color?
Quote: I have some coming in the mail.
I purchased a bunch of EEs of different ages. The oldest are only about 3 mo old so have a while until I get eggs, but just wondering about a couple of them. Some were EExLavender Orpington and one is EE over Black Australorp. I'm thinking these will probably lay a light olive, right?
My guess is the Ams would lighten the color so green and not olive UNLESS your Olives are really dark. I have some that are almost as dark as my dark Marans.... they need to go or go in with the Lav roo too. My Olive Eggers started laying about the same time as my BR.... I think.....Donna, I have a pen of Olive Eggers under a Lavender rooster, what color egg do you think I will get from the chicks, No one has laid yet, so I don't know what color egg they are going to lay yet. I know the BR in that pen was in the nesting box today, so everyone should be laying soon, the BR is about 30 weeks and so are the Olive eggers.
I lost my white empordanesa rooster a few weeks back to a hwak. so upset about it. also lost 2 icelandics a white hen and a white, blue , black rooster.
The Empordanesa rooster was devastating as it took a very long time for me to get them.
I have eggs coming next week so hope to hatch another rooster. Or my friend will send me another one. Just shipping adult birds is pricy.
My Crele penedesenca rooster and hens are in a another coop and covered run.
