I seem to be making a habit of dropping the DARKEST Marans egg and cracking them......

I can get EEs in only partridge, and I want different colored hens that still lay green eggs. I'm going to breed some brown eggers such as orpingtons, Australorps, and barred rock to these partridge EEs to get new colors, but I would like these offspring to lay green eggs. I realize that not all the offspring will lay green eggs, but my question is will I get a better green egger to Brown egger ratio with EE roo and Brown egg hens, or EE hens and Brown egg roo?

It really makes no difference who the roo or hen is. I think the look you are talking about is just from the waters being muddied with all the crosses over the year, like what you want to do. My EE came in all colors. I had Buff, Buff laced, several like what you are talking about, solid black, blue and white...... There are lots of colors EE come in, some more common than others.

When crossing I would think you would get about half with blue egg genes and half with just brown egg genes.... so you would get some with green eggs.

To anyone out there who has these WONDERFUL birds,
I am a small city flock(5 happy girls) owner and would love to have some of these beautiful birds. I am not allowed to have roosters per city ordinances, so cannot mix breed my own. Please let me know what I need to do to add 2 girls to my hen house. You can email me directly at [email protected]
Thanks for looking at my post
