The Olive-Egger thread!

Has anyone bred a Blue Copper Marans rooster to Lavender Ameraucanas pullets? If so, what did the F1's look like?

I would not breed a Blue to a Lavender, just me. BUT you would get 50/50 blue and black copper looking chicks with pea combs if the ams are breed with 2 copies of the pea comb gene. Lavenders are basically black birds since the lav gene is recessive.

I wouldn't do it either... recessive genes are pesky. Now if you had a lavender Marans, that would be an awesome OE project! Another California breeder (The Omelet Ranch) was offering up some gorgeous lavender Marans not that long ago, and they were something else. I think she has auctioned off her stock, but she still has photos up on her site: http://www.theomeletranch.com/index.php/lavender-marans

I have some growing up. Isabelle Marans.

Jealous!!! Pictures?

They are just babies. I have more coming too. Kinda Excited. They are splits and I will cross them with my Lav Am roo and get Lavender Olive Eggers. I will breed some of the Splits marans to get Isabells too, but I think I will use a split over Lavenders. May not need to.... the Lavenders Marans I don't think have the same feather issues the Ams do. It will be a fun project. I think they will be very pretty Olive Eggers too.

What can I expect the following crosses to look like as chicks and adults? Welsummer rooster x wheaten ameraucana and the same rooster x blue ameraucana?

I have F2 OE chicks with straight combs. Does this mean they will almost certainly not carry the blue gene? So will they lay dark brown eggs (father is a marans)?

How many times can you breed an olive egger back to a marans and keep the blue gene? I've seen f2's and f3's but can you keep going? Like could you eventually get back to a dark brown like a marans egg and still be blue on the inner shell?
