The Olive-Egger thread!

I just got some eggs today that are from an EE hen with marans roosters. I actually started 24 eggs from all manner of hens with a blue copper and black copper maran...Here is my question though...an egg from an olive egger that was bred by a maran's would give me chicks that are 3/4 marans and 1/4 ee right...? There are speckled sussex, GLW, Orpington, barnevelder, aww man, all kinds of hens in with maran's roosters. I can't wait to see what hatches out of the eggs, if anything at all...Lol.

Some of the eggs are marans brown, some are pink, some are green, some are blue, some are light brown, some are tan, and one is white. I'm going to have so many mutt chickens. It's going to be so awesome..unless none hatch and then I might cry...

Try Bev's Marans. Google the web site she lives in Florida.

Tim

I am not 100%sure but she does not sell Marans direct anymore. She might direct you to someone to buy eggs or chicks. If you are only looking for dark eggs, find someone that is winning showing eggs. Try looking on the Marans Club site http://maranschickenclubusa.com/index.html looking for JUST dark eggs is easier than finding good bird for breeding.

Hatched my first Olive Egger from my own birds in MONTHS.

Here is a picture of the egg I set. The Blue egg is what I hatched them from. The Dark Marans egg is a sister to the roo. Hoping that will be a good combo.

Thanks for the answers all.I am looking for dark quality layers for the eggs but also to breed with who are in around the North Florida area.I'm looking for someone in close proximitywho breeds high quality birds so I can have chicks shipped safely and quickly.I can't do hatching eggs right now because I have no set up for that and really no time to devote to something like that currently.Bev would be perfect but I cannot get her email to come up because I just got my comp fixed after a crash and there is no email program set up for the computer to open when I click her email link.It says on her web site she sells chicks eggs and birds sometimes but you have to email for the info.If any one can get her addy from this page so I can email her from my online email account I would very grateful!

this is correct. infact you can keep breeding your 3/4 birds back to marans to kill two birds with one stone(no Pun intended): first to make darker olive eggers and second to make them look more like marans in type and color. now after some time doing this back crossing you will have Pea combed marans that lay super dark olive eggs

I'm going to give this a try ... !!!
