The Olive-Egger thread!

I sent two of the to Sanoma California a couple of weeks ago and one of them laid an egg:

It looks very nice next to the Cream Legbar egg!
my CCLxCP OE pullet just started laying last week, the color, size and shape looks identical. Your photo captured the color better than others I've seen, it is pretty.

PalmHen and FridayYet, I'm probably closer to you in SoCal/LA county. There are other people, especially around San Diego that are also good sources. I'm sure Ventura County is in the mix, I just haven't met anyone with chickens from there.

If anyone is interested in an olive egger roo, I would let one go as a flock protector; not for food.

I do have hatching eggs from mature hens now, waiting awhile to use pullet eggs; will have chicks and started stock later.

One EE hen lays a very large egg. It is usually 68 - 70 grams! I have a batch of her chicks, waiting to see the outcome =)

I just hatched a bunch of F-1 OEs along with Marans and Ameraucanas... the OEs beat everybody else out of the shell by a full day.
Congratulations! I did too. I hatched two blue and one Black from a Black Ameraucana roo over a Blue Copper Marans hen. Also hatched some Black splits and some Ameraucana/Leghorn crosses.
My OEs are always the last to hatch.

I just hatched a olive egger with 3 more zipping...

as with the last hatch the olive eggers hatched earlier than the dark penedesenca and empordanesa eggs which kinda messed the end of the hatch up.

Quote: The crosses make a difference. Hybrid vigor corrects some of the inbreeding problems with rare breeds.

Yeah, Woodlands CA is a little far away. But thanks for responding! There has to be one I could get in WA state. I'm new to chickens after being away from them since I was a kid. So many more breeds and so much fun learning about them. I love the idea of the olive egg, especially.
