The Olive-Egger thread!

Some sex-linked OE I have been hatching this spring. Black Ameraucana over Golden Cuckoo Marans. Out of the first 11 hatched only 3 girls.

That is not great on the ratios. LOVE sexlinks. I have a roo guy that will take day olds so it helps to not have to feed them long. I am going to work on some AUTOSEXING.... well that was what it was called but was later told it would not breed true, so really a sexlink too. Hoping for some interesting COLORS in the sexlinks. We will see.

what are you working on that was not going to be auto sexing?

Here's some of my point of lay F-2 pullets... these girls are F-1 (Black Ameraucana x Black Copper Marans) back to a Blue Copper Marans. One has feathered shanks and feet, and the other is clean legged. Both have the cutest muffs! I can't wait to see what these ladies lay.

I LOVE that look, beard muffs and feathered legs. If I was going to really work on a BREED of olive eggers that would be my first choice for a look. Just too cute! Not sure I would want the copper from the copper marans, the solids look really good, but I don't have solid marans.

Gorgeous!!

I just hatched out 18 Marans mixed eggs on the 11th...4 of them had EEs as moms, and 2 were olive eggers that were mixed back with Marans...so I can be part of the olive eggers group...
I am torn with these little guys...I want them to grow up so I can see what they turn into, but I also want them to stay fuzzy little peepers forever...
I was hoping for some variety since all the chicks have all different moms, I mean some have the same mom, but there were eggs from quite a few different hens in with a black copper and blue copper Marans...I was expecting some different colors and such but they are all black or gray...some have more white than others, but they all have similar coloring and different shapes to them...

My understanding is it is a one time thing. I would have to work on breeding them some way to make them AUTOSEXING. Not sure what way to breed them or if I want to give it a pen.
hmm the crele penedesenca x cream legbar seemed to hatch lighter males and more chipmunk females.

I am planning on trying Silver ameraucana with the crele penedesenca. It would take a few generations to do it.
much like with using partridge penedesenca to diversify crele penedesenca blood. takes a few generations
I am not a chicken scientist though and not sure on the Marans
