I had a super hard time with my FBCM x Wheaten Ameracauna... Finally couldn't deny it with the curly greenish tail and beautiful coloring... Adopted him out today.

Oh I'm sorry! That's tough, the one I had been asking about a few weeks ago, started crowing last week, it made me sad. He was a sweetie. I did find him a good home though.

Oh darn, and they're SO handsome too. I'm in NW Washington. A little far away. I can't have a rooster in my neighborhood....just hens. I just wanted his services for a short while <wink wink>. Thanks for the offer though!

Where at in NW WA?
We're north of Bellingham and are just getting going with Olivers. We'll have 3 pens of different crosses later this year. Too bad you can't have roos. This weekend we're sorting out cockerels to sell or eat...FCBMs, Ameraucanas & F2 Olivers. Some nice looking birds.

I found out that the rooster is a blue ameraucana and the mothers are black copper Marans.

Should be obvious by 5-6 weeks. Are they pea combed or straight combed?

I will get them in the end of June, I will post pics as soon as I get them and ask for input. It's hard for me to tell what kind of comb they have when the are so little. I'm still a newbie lol.

if you are in norcal and want to make a nice olive egger I have a few young black penedesenca roosters.
They are super heat hardy and very alert.
hens lay super dark eggs.

I have never had the opportunity to see a penedesenca egg. Are they darker than marans eggs?

they are very dark. not as dark as the really dark copper marans but dark. however they are generally very dark where many marans I have seen very

They are very dark. I saw a picture on the penedesenca thread yesterday:

The picture is from chickencanoe. I have a Partridge Penedesenca that lays 6 eggs a week very regularly too.

The Chicken Charts show Penedesencas as being very good layers.

Those are gorgeous! Do different colors of penedesencas lay varying shades of dark? If so, which color penedesencas seem to lay the darkest? The reason I ask is because with marans, the egg colors vary in darkness with the BCM laying the darkest colored egg, at least from my experience anyway.

It seems like Partridge lay the darkest. White Emerodensas(White version of Penedesenca) are very close to them. Black and Crele are very Dark too but not quite as dark. I do not know about Wheaten--I have one now so I will let you know in several months or so.

I will get some pictures of my Crele Pene x Cream Legbar eggs so you can see what they look like.
