The Olive-Egger thread!

My 4 days old out with the broody BO.
Looks like I have 4 chipmunk, 3 black and 2 blue. All are from mint green/blue eggs and roo is a blue EE hen crossed with a splash maran roo an Olive egger.

This is a pix from OCT @7 months old. He is bigger now. I like how his body is light blue and tail is dark blue. This whole head is deep red as well as the EE wing patch. His comb is much bigger now a strait/pea mix.

EE genetics are so hard to guess.

It seems like Partridge lay the darkest. White Emerodensas(White version of Penedesenca) are very close to them. Black and Crele are very Dark too but not quite as dark. I do not know about Wheaten--I have one now so I will let you know in several months or so.

I will get some pictures of my Crele Pene x Cream Legbar eggs so you can see what they look like.

Awesome! Thank you!

Those are gorgeous! Do different colors of penedesencas lay varying shades of dark? If so, which color penedesencas seem to lay the darkest? The reason I ask is because with marans, the egg colors vary in darkness with the BCM laying the darkest colored egg, at least from my experience anyway.

Beautiful dark eggs!

They are very dark. I saw a picture on the penedesenca thread yesterday:

beautiful dark eggs! The picture is from chickencanoe. I have a Partridge Penedesenca that lays 6 eggs a week very regularly too. The Chicken Charts show Penedesencas as being very good layers.

Yes like Ron said they do vary
It can depend on the birds but generally
partridge
wheaten
black / white empordanesa about the same
crele the lightest

If I put my Olive Egger hens in with my pure Black Copper Marans roo what color eggs can I expect to get?
And if I put my Easter Egger hens in with that same roo?

If the OE chicks I posted above are all cockerels what kind of hens should I put them in with? Black Copper Marans? I'm going for the darker olive green eggs.

Have any of you seen this pattern in Olive Eggers before? This is a cockrel from an Americana roo over BCMarans hens. In particular I am talking about the "eyes" on his breast. They remind me of the false eyes that caterpillars have to scare off predators.

Any chance the pattern could be reproduced?

Well I have waited on this OE chick to see if he is a she. We are at 12 weeks now, maybe you can tell me what you think! Here is a series of pics. The last 2 were taken this morning, he/she is VERY skiddish, so those are the best pics I could get.

1- 2 weeks old....

At 6 weeks....

At 12 weeks....

Penny Hen - I have an OE that looks very similar, from a different crossing: RIR x Partridge mix EE. Are the "eyes" basically mottling?
